Off-season Bryce Gets Management Job
Tommy Bryce has left Queens to take up the player-manager role at relegated Partick Thistle. He has returned to his old club for his first two signings, David Kennedy and Des McKeown have both followed Tommy and both are expected to have coaching roles at the club.
Alexander Goes Full-Time
Queens manager Rowan Alexander is now working at Palmerston full-time.
Players Released
Several younger players on Queens books through the youth scheme have been released due mainly to financial problems with keeping them full-time. Also released were Craig Flannigan and Derek Laing.

Pre-season Hibs After Big Jim
Hibernian are said to be interested in signing Queens stopper Jim Thomson and Jim has been training with them. Jim has been outstanding since his arrival at Palmerston and would be sorely missed, however Queens appear to be looking for a considerable transfer fee which as yet Hibs look unwilling to match. Also Jim has recently got married and has a stable job, which he may be unwilling to give up to turn full-time. So for now Jim remains very much a Queens player, but for how long?
Marc Cleeland re-signs
After lengthy negotations Marc Cleeland has agreed to the terms offered and has signed a new contract with the club.
Bailey And Adams Sign
Ex Livingston striker Lee Bailey and ex Clydebank and Partick Thistle striker Charlie Adams have both signed for Queens after some impressive pre-season performances as trialists.
Rowan On Comeback Trail?
Rowan Alexander made a rare appearance in a friendly on Thursday night against Annan Athletic. Is Rowan setting his sights on a regular first team place?
Degsy Injured
Derek Townsley picked up an ankle knock in the game against Falkirk last Saturday. This explains his absence from the other pre-season games. Speaking to Degsy at Blythe, he said there was no chance of him making the Caley Thistle game, and he would be out for a couple of weeks at least. Ever modest, Degsy quipped "I wouldnt get in the team even if I was fit."
Shortest Ever Comeback
Rowan Alexander laughed off suggestions that his appearance against Annan was the start of a playing comeback, looks like he's confined himself to the dug-out for good!
New Signings?
Craig Potts and Ross Milligan both played for Queens against Blythe Spartans on Monday night but whether or not they have both signed is as yet unconfirmed. Our ever reliable Standard reported last Wednesday that Ross, a Dumfries boy who was on Rangers books, had signed for Workington Reds. This seemed very dubious as I had seen him at Annan only the night before in a Queens tracksuit, now I've seen him in a Queens strip as well...perhaps the Standard will catch up soon! Both players, Potts a left sided midfielder and Ross a right sided midfielder have been with the club on their north east tour.
New Strip To Be Unvieled
Our first glimpse of the new top will be on Wednesday night against Wallsall.
Alexander Pleased With Pre-season Form
Rowan Alexander told me he is pleased with the form his players have shown during the pre-season.
Potts To Choose
Rumour has it that Craig Potts has been offered terms by both Queens and his old club Gretna and will decide between the two this week.
Mathieson On Road To Recovery
David Mathieson could be well on the way to a full recovery from the much publicised muscle wasting disease. According to Rowan David is much stronger than last season and is begining to put on weight again. This is obviously great news and we wish David all the best.
Potts Saga Continues
According to the local press today, Craig Potts has and has not signed for Queens. Reports from Palmerston indicate that Potts has agreed terms anda put pen to paper, but Gretna officials are still insisting that the player is still on their books. Looks like we`ll just have to wait and see.
Queens To Decide On Ross
After playing in a couple of pre-season friendlys for the club, Queens will decide shortly whether or not to offer Ross Milligan a contract.

Week 1
(w/c 3/8/98)
Love To Play For You
Graeme Love has re-signed for Queens.
Finally?
Queens look to be close to signing Craig Potts. Reports from Palmerston indicate the club hopes to have the registration through in time for Potts to be included in the squad to face Arbroath.

Week 2
(w/c 10/8/98)
Cleeland Knock
Marc Cleeland picked up a knock in the game against Clyde and is doubtful for the first home league game this Saturday against Arbroath.
Cleeland OK
Marc came through a South Scotland League Cup game on Wednesday night(which Queens won 10-1!) and should be fit for Saturday.
New Signings
Both Craig Potts, from Gretna, and Kevin Doig, Kilmarnock, have both signed for Queens this week. Potts is a midfield man who operates normally on the left, while Doig is a defender.

Week 3
(w/c 17/8/98)

Week 4
(w/c 24/8/98)

Week 5

Mallen Transfer Listed
Stevie Mallen has requested a transfer after being left out of the squad last Saturday. According to the local paper, the request was made amicablly, Steve feeling that he needs a new challenge.

Week 6
(w/c 7/9/98)
Players Out
Several players are unavailable for this Saturdays game against Inverness. David Lilley, Dennis Boyle (both injured), Craig Potts and Steven Leslie (?) and Mark Weir (suspended) are all out. As yet it is unclear how long any of the players will be missing.
Interest In Mallen
Several teams are said to be interested in transfer listed Stevie Mallen, although no offers have yet been recieved. The striker is likely to start this Saturday to give him a chance to impress prospective buyers.
Queens Under Investigation
A sunday paper has today reported that Queens "unique" sponsership draw is being investigated by the gaming board. For those who dont know, last season and this, business have been invited to pay £250 to enter a draw. The winner then has their company name on the team strips for the season. This years winner was a local restaurant, last year Dumfries and Galloway Police force put an anti-drugs slogan on the shirts as their prise. Now the legality of the scheme is being investigated by ... yes, the D&G police force. Sour grapes...who knows? One thought, how will the police justify winning a competition that is found to be illegal a year later, by them?!?
